The suitability of people who have decided to undergo excimer laser treatment is decided after a series of tests.
First, the degree of drug-free eye disorder should be checked with an autorefractometer. The same instrument also measures the eye pressure value. After the capability of vision is evaluated and the eye degree is determined, the pupil is enlarged by instilling drops into the eye and the eye degree is measured again with the autorefractometer. In other words, measurements are made without and with drops.
The upper and lower eyelids, tear layer, conjunctiva, cornea and lens are evaluated with a slit lamp.
After this, the patient’s retina is examined and especially the central and peripheral retinal nerve layer is evaluated.
Finally, a corneal topography is performed to make a detailed map of the structure where the laser will be applied. Corneal topography is capable of detecting irregularities, thinness and steepness in the cornea.
As a result of this detailed examination, it is decided whether the patient’s eye structure is suitable for eximer laser and the patient is informed which method will be most beneficial. Next, you will be informed in detail by your doctor. All procedures are explained to the patient.
