Permanent intraocular lenses can be listed as follows;

  1. Monofocal Lenses
  2. Multifocal Lenses
  3. Trifocal Lenses
  4. Add-Off Lenses
  5. Add-On Lenses
  6. Phakic Intraocular Lenses
  7. Toric Lenses

These are single-focal lenses. They show only far or near clearly. These lenses, which were initially made of hard PMMA, are now mostly made of soft acrylic material. These lenses are used in cataract surgery.

They are bifocal lenses. They are soft and foldable because they are made of acrylic material. They provide clear far and near vision without glasses, but the intermediate distance may not be very clear. Intermediate distance refers to images at a distance of 50 cm. It can be considered as the distance at which someone washing dishes can see the dishes, or the distance at which someone shopping can see the labels on the shelf.

They are smart lenses that have three different foci on them.  They allow us to see far, medium and near clearly without glasses. These are soft, permanent intraocular lenses made of acrylic. Trifocal intraocular lenses have a special design that provides multiple focal capabilities.

These are multifocal permanent intraocular lenses. With these lenses, the distance and intermediate distance (50 cm) can be seen clearly without glasses. An additional near vision eyeglass is needed for the reading distance (30 cm).

Fifteen years ago, monofocal lenses were used in cataract operations. These lenses showed the distant objects clearly, but close-up glasses were needed to see the objects in near distances. Thanks to trifocal lenses (Smart Lenses), it is now possible to see far and near distances clearly without glasses.

People who have previously been fitted with monofocal lenses can be fitted with an additional lens on top of their existing lenses. These are called Add-On lenses, which are allowing them to see far and near clearly without eyeglasses (like smart lenses).

Astigmatism can also be corrected with Add-On lenses. In other words, while the person’s near vision problem is corrected, the astigmatism problem can also be eliminated.

These lenses are placed in front of the natural lens. They correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Eye disorders that cannot be corrected with an eximer laser (or other methods) can be easily corrected with this method. It has a very wide treatment range. The most important advantage is that these lenses can be removed when necessary. These lenses are also called intraocular contact lenses.

This type of lenses correct astigmatism eye disorders.
