    Intrastromal Corneal Rings

    İntrastromal Korneal Halkalar

Intrastromal corneal rings are small rings placed in the corneal layer. They are commonly used to correct corneal disorders such as keratoconus. Keratoconus is characterized by a thinning of the cornea into a cone-shaped protrusion. By changing the shape of the cornea, these rings can reduce irregularities and improve the quality of vision.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and requires a surgical intervention. Intrastromal corneal rings may be preferable to more invasive procedures.  Corneal transplantation is an example of such procedures. However, the feasibility of these rings depends on the individual’s eye health and condition. An ophthalmologist can decide whether the treatment is appropriate after a detailed examination.
